T he Denver Grand comes in three formats: Kontakt 6, Logic X, and Ableton 10. That’s why we jumped at the chance to sample a piano from my old stomping grounds. Denver is where I went to college to study music. But Denver is the city where Echo Sound Works started. Why Denver? It’s admittedly not the first city you think of when you picture a grand piano. The ESW team sampled this piano about 6 months ago, and we decided to make a high quality, modern sounding free piano library. So we decided to release our very own free piano, The Denver Grand. Most of them aren't even useable, let alone good. So no UAD in this list.Īs we were putting together this list of the best free pianos, we quickly realized something. We have also omitted any reverb plugins that can't run on native processing. Echo Sound Works is not affiliated with any of the companies listed below. It took a couple of months, but we think it was all worth it because, honestly, it's a great-sounding, versatile piano.ĭISCLAIMER: This is NOT a paid review. We ended up finding about 5-7 that we liked and we think you'll like as well! To our surprise, the majority of the pianos we downloaded were hardly useable, let alone good. We graded each piano on sound quality, ease of use, and playability. We downloaded over 20 pianos and tested them out, putting each one through a litany of tests. That's why we wanted to round up the best FREE piano libraries and plugins. To make matters worse, the pianos that come with a lot of popular DAWS like Logic X and Ableton sound dated and thin. Unfortunately, a lot of the paid piano libraries from companies like Native Instruments, Spectrasonics, UVI, Spitfire, and more, can all cost upwards of $100 and, in some cases, much more. It's one of the few instruments that shows up in nearly every genre of music. To get the strengths of this piano in the low registers, mostly I played in low & mid registers.Piano is an essential tool or sound in any producer's sonic toolbox. In the sample video, I played "Falling slowly" one of the famous soundtracks in the 2000s. IMHO, this piano may be suitable for pop and new age genres where the high dynamic is not required normally.Ībout the main volume value, it is loud enough by default so that I used my Waves L1 Ultramaximizer just a little compared to other sample libraries I have used. Especially dynamic lacks a lot in the high register. Its low register sounds so deep and rich on the other hand mid & high registers sound a bit muggy and weak. It doesn't sound realistic honestly but its warmth would be attractive if you don't care about the realism of the piano. But the reason I use this piano VST is that it is quite light to use without any concerns regarding CPU and RAM and SSD usage. It sounds decent but not outstanding compared to other famous Steinway D sample libraries in the market now. ![]() In this post, I want to focus on the first piano which sampled Steinway Model D. You will notice it right away when you play them by yourself. But the other three are just a waste of money honestly in terms of sound and GUI. I paid around 140 USD without any discount. Baby Grand Piano - ERARD BABY GRAND PIANO Upright Grand Piano - SEILER UPRIGHT GRANDĥ. Japanese Grand Piano - YAMAHA C7 CONCERT GRANDĤ. F-Grand Piano 278 - FAZIOLI F278 CONCERT GRANDģ. Today I want to review one of the old piano VSTs in market, UVI Grand Piano Collection series. 5.6 (Volume 8 / Sound 5 / Body 5 / Response 6 / Dynamic 4) *Price & Size : 149 USD, 5GB (UVI Grand Piano Collection)
